The Night House

David Bruckner

USA; 2021

I didn’t expect much from this one… I thought it’d be just some fun jump scares and g-g-g-ghosts. But I was wrong… it was really scary. Very interesting story, I’m not sure I understood it (I’m watching some analysis videos on it now). At first I was annoyed that the protagonist was another mopey-faced woman, but it was actually integral to the plot. The main theme was grief and it did a really good job of portraying this. It even got a soft pass on the Bechdel Test. From the very small amount of films I’ve seen this year, this is up there with the best.
